The RSF condemns the SAF's missile strike on the village of Gurair in North Darfur

MEDIA STATEMENT

In a dangerous escalation and a continuation of a criminal pattern of targeting civilians, drones operated by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), under the control of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood, bombarded the village of Gurair in North Darfur State with ten missiles, which led to a massive fire that engulfed citizens' homes, causing extensive and severe destruction to the property and livelihoods of innocent civilians.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) affirm that this attack was deliberately carried out against a peaceful civilian area, entirely devoid of any military presence or targets. This fact eliminates any possible military justification and confirms that the strike constituted a systematic act of retaliatory bombardment directly targeting civilians.

Such attacks can only be interpreted as the intentional targeting of civilian populations with the aim of inflicting severe harm on their lives and property. These actions amount to full-fledged war crimes and reflect a dangerous and escalating pattern of violations that may rise to the level of ethnic cleansing.

While strongly condemning this crime, the RSF holds the terrorist SAF fully responsible for these violations, which demonstrate a blatant disregard for civilian lives and a complete violation of the principles of international humanitarian law. These actions further exacerbate the suffering of the population amid the rapid deterioration of basic services and humanitarian conditions.

The RSF calls upon the international community, as well as human rights and humanitarian organizations, to take urgent and immediate action to halt the use of drones in targeting civilians, to implement effective deterrent measures to ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and to support efforts to document these crimes and hold those responsible accountable, ensuring they do not escape justice.

The RSF further stresses that continued international silence in the face of these crimes will only encourage further escalation and violations. A firm and responsible stance is urgently required to put an end to these attacks and to safeguard civilians’ fundamental rights to life, security, and dignity.
