MEDIA STATEMENT

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) condemn the ongoing criminal attacks carried out by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), which operate under the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group, against defenceless civilians, following a new drone strike targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure in the city of Zalingei, Central Darfur State in a dangerous escalation that reflects a deliberate and systematic pattern of targeting innocent people.

This heinous attack targeted Khamsa Dagaig (“Five Minutes”) camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs), resulting in the deaths of several civilians, including women, and leaving many others injured. The attack also caused widespread destruction of homes and significant material losses among the civilian population, particularly among displaced persons already living under extremely catastrophic humanitarian conditions. The attack further extended to a healthcare centre within the city, constituting a grave violation of the sanctity of medical facilities.

The targeting of IDP camps and healthcare facilities represents a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a clear breach of the Geneva Conventions, which guarantee special protection for civilians and civilian objects, especially medical facilities. Such acts amount to full-fledged war crimes.

The RSF holds the Muslim Brotherhood’s army and Port Sudan gang fully responsible for these crimes and renews its call on the United Nations and all human rights and humanitarian organizations to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities, take immediate action to halt these violations and to ensure full accountability for those responsible.

The RSF affirms its full solidarity with the victims and their families and reiterates its firm commitment to defend and protect civilians, as well as to work tirelessly to bring an end to this bloody course of action that target innocent civilians and vital infrastructure.
