UNTAMIS chief praises West Darfur peace deals brokered by Transitional Sovereignty Council VP

Transitional Sovereignty Council Vice President, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has held a meeting with UNTAMIS Mission Chairman Volker Peretz in the presence of fellow council members Al-Tahir Hagar and Dr. Al-Hadi Idris, West Darfur Governor Khamis Abd Allah Abaker, and representatives of several UN agencies.
The vice president briefed the meeting participants on the efforts under way to facilitate tribal reconciliation, impose the authority of the state, and return IDPs to their homes.

Dagalo stressed that the government is keen to maintain stability, safeguard citizens, and secure the agricultural season. He also urged the UN to help assist IDPs.
In turn, Peretz praised the reconciliations brokered by the vice president and his fellow council members. He added that local communities play an integral role in helping to coordinate efforts to maintain security and stability in Sudan.
Volker stressed that the UN will study the plan to return IDPs to their homes, as well as the challenges facing these efforts, and assist in the process to the best of its ability.

He added that he arrived to Ginena to express his concern for Darfur, generally, and West Darfur, specifically.
He also called for greater cooperation to maintain peace and stability for all the people of Sudan.
