In the latest in a series of deliberate crimes against innocent civilians, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), operating under the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group, targeted residential neighbourhoods in the city of Lagawa, West Kordofan State, today, Monday. This attack resulted in new massacres that have left more than 17 people dead and at least 25 others wounded, according to preliminary figures.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) reiterate, in the strongest possible terms, their condemnation of this barbaric aggression, which is manifested in the systematic bombardment of hospitals, markets, and residential neighbourhoods across several cities in the Kordofan and Darfur regions through the use of drones.
Our forces affirm that these attacks constitute a grave and blatant violation of international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions, which strictly prohibit the targeting of civilians and civilian objects, and guarantee special protection for healthcare facilities and medical personnel. These actions also represent a clear breach of the fundamental principles and pillars of the law of armed conflict.
Our forces hold the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood army, and “Port Sudan Gang,” fully responsible for these crimes, which necessitate immediate criminal accountability for all those who planned, ordered, or participated in their execution.
We renew our call for an independent international investigation to ensure that those responsible for these massacres are brought to justice. We further stress that statements of condemnation alone are no longer sufficient to deter these recurring violations, which, due to their systematic nature and widespread scale, may amount to crimes against humanity.
Our forces emphasize that the protection of civilians and facilities is both a legal and moral obligation that must never be violated under any circumstances and that continued impunity only encourages the repetition of such crimes and threats regional peace and security.
