MEDIA STATEMENT
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) affirm that the recently announced U.S. sanctions imposed on the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), which have been controlled by the terrorist Islamic Movement, represent a significant step forward that exposes the scale of the heinous crimes committed against the Sudanese people. These sanctions further reinforce the warnings our forces have repeatedly issued regarding the threat posed by the terrorist SAF’s use of internationally prohibited weapons against civilians in various regions across Sudan.
In a previous statement issued on March 31, 2025, our forces raised the alarm of the SAF persistence in committing war crimes through the use of chemical weapons, which resulted in the death of thousands of civilians. This alert was based on documented reports on evidence gathered since January, through specialized teams and field investigations, which included compelling evidence and live testimonies from various regions.
Specialized international circles in the United States, Britain, and several European countries have monitored the increasing evidences of the use of chemical weapons by the Sudanese Armed Forces (ISIS army), which led to the recent sanctions imposed on its commanders. These crimes have been documented in cities such as Mellit and Al-Kuma in North Darfur State, as well as in the capital, Khartoum. The evidences include soil and water sample tests, the remains of the burned bodies of civilian victims, and the testimonies of impartial investigative teams.
These evidences were corroborated by videos published by international media outlets, in which members of the SAF displayed these weapons, along with testimonies from foreign journalists who visited Sudan by invitations of groups loyal to the remnants of the toppled regime . Furthermore, Sudanese activists also contributed to documenting these crimes, culminated by the U.S. State Department’s condemnation of the commanders of the terrorist Sudanese Army.
Our forces reaffirm that the so-called “Al-Bara bin Malik Brigade,” one of the battalions of the terrorist Islamic Movement, is the body that controls the chemical weapons, acting under the direct command of the criminal Al-Burhan. Our forces have previously revealed that these terrorists have used foreign elements as experts to operate and manage the use of the deadly weapons.
Our forces warn of a serious environmental catastrophe resulting from the presence of chemical weapons stockpiled in warehouses inside the Faculty of Education in Omdurman, as well as in other locations controlled by the military arm of the Islamic Movement and Al-Bara bin Malik battalions. This stockpiling of the chemical weapons has led to outbreaks of cases of severe poisoning and diarrhea over the past two days, not due to cholera outbreak, as stated , but as a result of chemical contamination.
Evidence confirms that the use of chemical weapons was not limited to certain areas but was carried out on a large scale in North and South Darfur states, the capital Khartoum, and Gezira State . The use of chemical weapons affected densely populated areas, including the neighborhoods of Bayt al-Mal, Hai Al-Dhubbat, Al-Shuhada, Al-Rikabiya, Al-Hashmap, and Al-Mawrada. Parts of Khartoum Bahri and central and eastern neighbourhoods of the capital, including the Republican Palace are also affected .
We in the Rapid Support Forces strongly condemn these crimes against humanity. We consider them full-fledged crimes of genocide and a blatant violation of all international laws and norms, among which is the Chemical Weapons Convention. We also highlight the complicity of certain countries in these crimes through attempts to protect the perpetrators. We also note that some media outlets have deliberately engaged in camouflaging these grave crimes.
We call on the international community to act urgently by opening an independent and transparent investigation and hold those responsible accountable before international justice.
We reiterate our full commitment to defend the rights of the Sudanese people and underscore to continue the fight to liberate the entire country from the grip of this terrorist gang, and to build a new Sudanese state on the foundations of justice, that protects the lives of its citizens and safeguards their rights.
