Transitional Sovereignty Council Vice President, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo visited Bashaier Port today to inspect the facility.
He was accompanied by economic officials and financial experts.
Dagalo was briefed by the port’s director on the challenges facing the port, particularly as far as the shipping and unloading processes are concerned. He underscored the importance of coordinating with the relevant bodies to overcome existing difficulties.
Meanwhile, the vice president said close attention should be paid to the environment, and accommodation needs to be built for employees over the next two months to improve their working conditions.
Dagalo also visited Prince Osman Dina Port, located 65 kilometers from Port Sudan. The port houses more than 12,000 containers.
Prince Osman Diga Port Director, Dr. Taha Ahmed Mohammed Mokhtar said the port area needs to be expanded to contain a larger volume of goods. While giving the vice president a tour of the facility, he stated that construction and modernization activities should be expedited.
Dagalo also inspected the desalination station at the port and promised to resolve any issues that are preventing it from reaching its full economic potential.
