Transitional Sovereignty Council Vice President, General Mohammed Hamdan Daglo stated that Sudan and South Sudan are brotherly nations with the deepest feelings of fraternity after arriving to South Sudan today.

Daglo is visiting the country in his capacity as the chairman of the High Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of the Peace Agreement in South Sudan. The visit was commissioned by Sudan’s president and other members of the Transitional Sovereignty Council.

Upon arriving to the airport in Juba, Daglo stated that his visit is aimed at monitoring the peace agreement. He also praised the high level of ongoing communication between Sudan’s leaders and South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Vice President Riek Machar since the signing of the agreement.

“Despite the challenges that Sudan is now facing, we have been monitoring the developments in South Sudan, as we are considered to be the guarantors of the peace agreement,” Daglo said.

He added that he will meet with all parties to monitor the security arrangements under the agreement.

Dagalo underscored that South Sudan is experiencing a period of stability, tranquility and economic growth. However, he noted that caution must be exercised to ensure that South Sudan does not experience a scarcity of resources, which could lead to problems in implementing the peace agreement. However, Daglo reiterated his confidence that all parties are singularly focused on implementing the agreement and ensuring peace.

Meanwhile, South Sudanese Presidential Advisor for Security Affairs Tot Goluak welcomed the vice president and his delegation. He lauded Dagalo’s efforts to maintain peace in South Sudan, as well as his contribution to building trust among all the stakeholders in the process.
