Sudanese Acting Foreign Minister, Ambassador Ali Saddig launched on Sunday in Khartoum a training workshop on international human rights law. The workshop was organized by the National Commission for Human Rights in cooperation with the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) Human Rights and Child Protection Unit and the Arab Organization for Human Rights.
The workshop was attended by RSF Operations Chairman, Gen. Osman Mohammed Hamed, the chairperson of the National Commission for Human Rights, the chairperson of the Arab Organization for Human Rights, and diplomatic, regional and media representatives.
The workshop will run for three days.
Saddig stressed Sudan’s commitment to carry out legal reforms to advance human rights and constitutional guarantees of freedoms, as well as to positively support women and children.
He added that Sudan is a member of all international institutions that safeguard human rights.
Saddig confirmed the government’s commitment to support the National Commission for Human Rights, which is considered an independent national authority.
Meanwhile, Hamed affirmed his deep concern for human rights and the need to enhance and build capacity in this regard, noting the RSF’s belief in the importance of supporting human rights and protecting children.
Chairperson of the Arab Organization for Human Rights Ala Sayed Kamil Shalabi said the workshop is an institutional partnership between his organization and the commission.
He added that the workshop will serve as a step toward transition and dialogue in Sudan.
Meanwhile, National Commission for Human Rights Chairperson, Dr. Riffat Mergani Abbas said the workshop is part of a comprehensive training program targeting government entities, including the regular forces, public prosecutor’s office, judiciary and activists.
He declared that it is the commission’s duty to spread human rights awareness in Sudan, and it will remain stalwart in fulfilling this commitment before the Sudanese people.
