MEDIA STATEMENT
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) continues its indiscriminate bombardment of residential areas and neighborhoods through air raids and the use of heavy artillery, disregarding human rights law, basic notions of humanity, and international humanitarian law.
SAF aerial bombardments yesterday led to the tragic deaths of five innocent people from a single family in the area of al-Khujlab, north of Bahri. Explosive barrel bombs also destroyed several houses. In the area of Uzozab in southern Khartoum, nine people lost their lives, and many others sustained injuries due to bombings. Despite these actions, the SAF has attempted to shift the blame by falsely accusing others of committing these attacks.
Additionally, a barbaric aerial bombardment using barrel bombs at the Gandahar livestock market in Omdurman claimed the lives of 12 people, injured numerous others, and caused the destruction of barns. The rebels also engaged in an air strike with barrel bombs today in the Mayo area, south of Khartoum, near a truck park, resulting in the further loss of innocent lives. The exact number of casualties is still unclear. The injured were rushed to the Bashaer and Fouad hospitals. Numerous livestock were also killed and trucks destroyed.
Regrettably, these heinous acts, which amount to war crimes, have not received sufficient condemnation at the local, regional, or international level. Preliminary data suggests that hundreds of innocent citizens have lost their lives today due to these indiscriminate aerial bombardments by the SAF.
This dire situation demands urgent condemnation and calls for accountability from the international community.
