The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and its backers linked to the former regime of military dictator Omar al-Bashir have launched an unprovoked attack on our personnel this morning, as we moved to evacuate 35 wounded SAF soldiers from the Bahri Military Hospital, together with a mission from the International Red Cross (IRC).

The evacuation had previously been agreed upon with the SAF, which proceeded to ignore its obligations under that agreement and opened fire on the RSF and the IRC mission.

The attack resulted in the injury of an RSF officer who was assisting with the supervision of the evacuation process. The lives of the IRC mission members were also put in danger.

According to the agreement reached as part of the Jeddah platform, the RSF and the IRC mission were scheduled to evacuate wounded SAF soldiers from RSF- and SAF-controlled areas.

However, the SAF opened heavy fire upon our two delegations in a stark violation of human rights and international humanitarian law. This is a flagrant violation of the recently agreed upon 72-hour ceasefire and humanitarian truce.

The RSF condemns this treacherous and barbarous act.

We reiterate once again to both the regional and the international community that the SAF has so far been unable to fulfill its obligations under a single ceasefire, as its leadership is presently fractured into multiple decision-making centers, none of which have a clear mandate to exclusively negotiate under the U.S.-Saudi mediation mechanism.
