MEDIA STATEMENT

May 16, 2023

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) continues to conduct indiscriminate air raids on civilian areas, residential neighborhoods and hospitals, including the East Nile Hospital, which was recently  destroyed in one such bombing. Civil society organizations and the international community are increasingly raising the alarm over these arbitrary attacks on innocent civilians in Sudan.

Backed by members of the former regime of military dictator Omar al-Bashir, the SAF continues to disseminate rumors and false information targeted against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). These include fake allegations that the RSF has attacked foreign diplomatic personnel. All embassies and diplomatic missions in Sudan, however, have denied attacks on their headquarters by the RSF or any other party involved in the conflict.

The RSF is committed to responding aggressively to and thwarting the former regime's disinformation.

The RSF has been monitoring the actions of the SAF and former regime members, who seized official documents and social media platforms and then spread lies to deceive the Sudanese people and the international community.

Alarming evidence also indicates that mercenary forces are presently in the employ of the former regime. These extremist elements have armed the Shadow Brigades (radical Islamist jihadi forces) and pose a serious threat to religious and tribal institutions in Sudan.

Citizens have reported looting, arbitrary arrests, and targeted violence at SAF checkpoints based on both racial and tribal grounds.

The RSF emphasizes its readiness to respond swiftly to these and other actions by members of the former regime. We are committed to maintaining peace, stability, and implementing the principles of "Freedom, Peace, and Justice.”
