The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) strongly condemn the brutal attack carried out by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on Monday evening, using an aircraft to strike a humanitarian convoy belonging to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in the "Al-Kuma" area of North Darfur. According to the Sudanese Humanitarian Relief and Operations Agency (SARHO), the attack resulted in the deaths of four convoy members, injuries to two others, and the complete destruction of seven vehicles, based on preliminary statistics.
This terrorist attack constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and poses a grave threat to the lives of civilians and humanitarian workers striving to alleviate suffering amid the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
The convoy, which was deliberately attacked by the terrorist SAF operating under the Islamic Movement, was carrying food and medical aid to the people of Darfur and was detained for more than 15 days in al-Dabba area by the so-called SAF Intelligence and was targeted with the aim of preventing humanitarian aid from reaching civilians in Darfur. This is not the first time that the SAF has targeted humanitarian aid organizations and workers, and it had previously targeted the World Food Program headquarters in Blue Nile, resulting in the death of the office director and a several staff members, as well as targeting the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) convoy and killing a number of local staff.
We call on the international community to end impunity for crimes against humanity, hold the perpetrators accountable, ensure the protection of humanitarian workers, and respect international law.
