Transitional Sovereignty Council Vice President, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo stressed that the Peace Festival hosted by West Darfur State today and tomorrow demonstrates just how greatly the state has recovered from tribal disputes in the past three years.
These disputes unfortunately resulted in death of members of the local population.
While taking part in a program on Sudanese Radio from Ginena today, Dagalo praised all those who contribute to maintaining stability and peace in Sudan, underscoring that the state has rejected hatred and promotes instead tolerance, peace, and rule of law.
"Sudan has suffered from sedition,” he said, adding that the government will continue to impose the authority of the state and rule of law and work to return IDPs to their homes.
He added that sport and cultural programs are being held in Ginena to spread peace and tolerance and advocate for renouncing tribalism, racism, and division.
"We have been here in the state for two months. We are planting peace here, from the ground up," he said.
The vice president added that Darfur has faced numerous obstacles in the past with its land and scarce resources and pointed out that the Juba Agreement has solved many of these issues.
Dagalo stressed that arms are no longer freely distributed in the state thanks to the government's efforts to collect weapons. Previously, weapons were widely available throughout the region.
He further underscored that peace and stability must be maintained in the area.
In turn, Khamis Abd Allah Abaker, the state’s governor, praised the government’s efforts to maintain peace and stability and stressed that his government is keen to impose the authority of the state and rule of law.
