Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Dr. Al-Hadi Idris Yahia has welcomed a plane of humanitarian aid provided by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.
The humanitarian aid was sent to support reconciliation efforts in Darfur, which are taking place under the personal instruction of Transitional Sovereignty Council Vice President, Rapid Support Forces Commander, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
Dagalo has set as a priority the resolution of tribal conflicts in West Darfur and throughout Sudan.
Yahia was accompanied by the vice president’s representative, General Al-Khair Abd Allah Abu-Miredat and UAE Ambassador in Sudan Hamad Mohammed Al-Junaibi.
The plane contained 25 tonnes of food and five tonnes of medicine.
Dr. Al-Hadi praised the UAE for providing the aid to Sudan – and particularly Darfur. He stressed that the aid was sent after the vice president announced a strategy to further support reconciliation efforts in the area. He thanked the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, which, he emphasized, has always stood with the people of Sudan.
In turn, Ambassador Al-Junaibi said the humanitarian aid included food and medicine to support the affected population in Darfur. He underscored the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries.
“This is not aid," he said, "but rather our duty toward our Sudanese people.”
