Transitional Sovereignty Council Vice President, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has held a meeting with independent human rights expert Adama Dieng.
The vice president welcomed the expert’s second visit to Sudan and wished him the utmost success in his mission.
Dagalo briefed Dieng on the situation in Sudan, as well as the government’s efforts to overcome challenges in light of the recent political and economic developments in the country.
He also stressed Sudan’s commitment to cooperate with the UN and other organizations to promote human rights.
The vice president also underscored the importance of working with Sudan to achieve peace and stability, adding that the government is pursuing all recommendations to enhance the human rights situation in the country.
Meanwhile, Dieng praised the government’s decision to lift the state of emergency in Sudan and release detainees, while calling on all stakeholders to speed up their efforts to resolve the political situation in Sudan, which, in turn, he said, impacts the human rights situation in the country.
He also urged the international community to support the country through their diplomatic representatives, stressing that Sudan is one of the most important countries in the region, with "tremendous, unrealized potential."
“Only the Sudanese people are capable of overcoming challenges and opening a new chapter in the country’s development,” he said.
