The RSF condemns the AU Commission Chairperson's blatant bias towards the SAF

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) condemn the positions and statements of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, which were characterized a blatant bias toward one of the conflicting parties in Sudan. These statements stand in clear contradiction to the officially declared position of the African Union, which called for the suspension of Sudan’s membership following the coup of October 25, 2021.

The statements made by Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssef, following his meeting with the delegation of the illegitimate 'Port Sudan Group' on the sidelines of the Arab League Summit held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, in which he praised what he referred to as 'the control of the army', is clear evidence of blatant bias and a deliberate attempt to shift the African Union’s position in favor of one of the conflicting parties.

These statements represent a flagrant violation of the principles of neutrality and objectivity that are essential for anyone holding a high-continental position. Furthermore,?the statements also stand in complete contradiction to the African Union’s declared position which does not recognize the de facto authority in Sudan and affirms its role as a neutral mediator in any political process that ends the conflict in Sudan.

We reaffirm that Sudan’s sovereignty has been compromised since the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) seized power by force. Persisting in addressing the Sudanese crisis through alignment with the agenda of the Islamic terrorist movement does not serve the cause of peace; rather, it perpetuates the war, division, and destruction.

RSF warn against this biased approach and call on the African Union Commission to uphold the institutional decisions and take a responsible position that reflects the aspirations of the continent’s citizens for democracy and justice, rather than siding with coup-led and authoritarian regimes.
