Transitional Sovereignty Council Vice President, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has called on the Sudanese people to stop fighting and engage in dialogue to achieve a national consensus. He stressed that dialogue is the only way forward to achieve peace and stability in Sudan.
While speaking at the signing ceremony for a reconciliation agreement between the Tama and Gamar tribes, Dagalo praised Allah, asking him to safeguard the souls of martyrs in paradise. He stressed that the government does not object to peaceful protests, adding that it is the right of every Sudanese to express his opinion without fear of safety.
Dagalo added that the government supports the trilateral mechanism to facilitate dialogue between all stakeholders in Sudan. “Dialogue is the only way to resolve all the political, economic, and social issues facing the country, and to usher in a new chapter of economic development,” he said.
The vice president also stated that several seditious groups are attempting to hinder efforts at tribal reconciliation in West Darfur. As an example, he noted a rally of heavily armed outlaws and announced that they should disperse within 24 hours as they are a threat to the safety of the local population. Otherwise, the police will be forced to arrive to the area, Dagalo said.
Additionally, the vice president stated that a large cache of weapons sent by unknown individuals was recently seized on route to Darfur. He directed the regular forces to investigate who sent the weapons and why to prevent conflicts from further escalating in local communities.
He also called on native administrations to adhere to signed peace deals and to follow their traditions and customs to resolve conflicts.
Dagalo also declared that the UAE has shown its support for the voluntary return of IDPs, and thanked the country for its assistance.
