In a continuation of the heinous assaults orchestrated by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and its allied militias linked to the terrorist Islamic Movement, SAF warplanes conducted yet another tragic massacre on Friday in the city of Mellit, North Darfur. This brutal attack claimed the lives of 15 innocent civilians, including women and children, injured many others, and decimated dozens of homes.

The deliberate deployment of barrel bombs against defenseless civilians reflects the SAF’s scorched-earth policy aimed at erasing entire communities — an act universally condemned and explicitly prohibited by international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions that protect civilians in conflict zones.

Today’s atrocities in Mellit add to the disturbing legacy of violence of the former regime, which for more than three decades has inflicted gross human rights violations on the Sudanese people and disregarded international conventions designed to protect civilians.

As we condemn this unconscionable attack on the unarmed and defenseless residents of Mellit, we call upon the international community to break its silence and address the escalating massacres perpetrated by the terrorist Islamic Movement. These factions must be held accountable for their barbaric acts against the people of Sudan.

The relentless campaign of terror inflicted by the former regime and its militant Islamist forces only strengthens our unyielding commitment to a singular mission: to cleanse our homeland of this malign influence by dismantling the former regime once and for all and eradicating the Islamic Movement from our country.
